 2017 Preview 


       Bessemer City completed the 2016 season with a 7-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region four, the Purple Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Bessemer City reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Park Crossing by a score of 52-26.

       Since 2010, Bessemer City has gone a combined 39-38. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 6A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Bessemer City has managed to compile a record of 169-107. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 6A and 85th in the AHSAA.

Martez Edwards did not re-apply for his position as the head coach at Bessemer City following the 2016 season. He leaves with a 30-18 record and four playoff appearances.


Quintin Jackson, a Mobile native played high school football at B.C. Rain. He coached at Parker for two seasons under George Bates and served as offensive line coach a Bessemer City for the last three seasons.



       The Bessemer City Purple Tigers will play in Class 6A region four during the 2017 season.

       The Purple Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Purple Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 25 at Falcon Stadium. Last year the Central Tuscaloosa Falcons finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 5A region three. The Falcons closed out the regular season with a loss to Northridge by a score of 48-13.

       Bessemer City and Central Tuscaloosa have met a total of 29 times on the football field. The Purple Tigers have a 15-14-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2016 with Bessemer City winning by a score of 26-0.

       Bessemer City returns 6A All-State Junior receiver Marques Mason. He was named to the second team last season.
